Orange Algae, Cypress Trees, Point Lobos, CA

Posted by
Don Smith (California, United States) on 15 August 2024 in Landscape & Rural.

At the northern tip of California's Point Lobos State Reserve, one will find Cypress trees with a bright orange algae. This algae is Trentepohlia, a green algae which is rich in beta carotene. It peaks during the summer months and is very cool to photograph. I captured this RAW file back in August 2014. To pull the most out of this file, I started with a linear profile for this Fuji XT1 camera created by Tony Kuyper. These are free of charge and can be downloaded here: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD LINEAR PROFILE FOR YOUR CAMERA These profiles extend the dynamic range of the file giving you a better starting point IMO for getting the most out of your highlights and shadows.

FUJIFILM X-T1 1/30 second F/16.0 ISO 200 53 mm (35mm equiv.)
