Pacific Ocean Sunset, Central California

Posted by
Don Smith (California, United States) on 3 September 2021 in Landscape & Rural.

Last night the fog cleared here in Los Osos, CA and allowed for a beautiful sunset. I was testing the new Singh-Ray Extended Soft GND filters and stacked a +2 with my Singh-Ray 3-stop Reverse Grad! I was so into how good this held the sky that I made a big booboo! As I was walking back to the car, it dawned on me that I forgot to shift my focus and shoot a sharp frame of the foreground wildflowers so I could mask them in during processing. Even though I use hyperfocal focusing as much as possible (I shot this frame at f/22 at 32mm), these flowers were just too close to hold focus out to infinity. Last year, all of these files would have hit the trash can and I would have been majorly pissed-off at myself. But thanks to Topaz Sharpener AI, I was able to save this frame and put a smile on this old guy's face! These flowers were plain out of focus, but thanks to this awesome software and the power of AI, they pass for being very sharp!
