Brown Pelican Dive

Posted by
Don Smith (California, United States) on 31 August 2017 in Animal & Insect.

One of the most fascinating parts of being on Elkhorn Slough was watching the Brown Pelicans dive for fish. CLICK HERE FOR MORE IMAGES.

These are large birds (with a wingspan of nearly 79 inches) and can start a dive from 70 feet up! It took me some time watching how they attack and finally locked onto this guy with my Sony a9 going in for dinner.

BTW - pelicans can live to be over 30 years old!
