Granite Canyon, Big Sur Coast

Posted by
Don Smith (California, United States) on 8 December 2016 in Landscape & Rural.

Monday my friend Mike Hall and I photographed a new location along the Big Sur Coast called Granite Canyon. Thanks to directions from Pacific Grove photographer Christopher Axe, we scrambled down the side of a poison oak-laden hillside, then boulder scrambled down into the canyon itself. Lastly, we scaled another large granite escarpment to reach this high vantage point. Even though were at the second low tide of the day, .33 feet, an approaching storm stirred the water creating large swells.

What I loved about this scene was the color harmony created by the blues in the foreground water working with the warm hues created by the setting sun. In my new blog Visual Concepts - Color Harmony I discuss color harmony. If you want to improve your color landscape images, it would behoove you to take some time to study the nuances of color relationships.
