Throwback Thursday: One of the best ultra-wide angle lenses ever made was the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 (I still own this lens). When I first got it, I headed straight to Pfeiffer Beach to photograph the sun setting through Keyhole Arch. This was at a time before the modern-day hordes of photographers knew of this location. In fact, I remember only one other photographer being there - those days are gone! I composed this scene at 14mm and bracketed with my shutter. This was 2010 and sensors were very limited in regards to dynamic range back then. I spent quite a while in Photoshop using luminosity masks to balance the exposure of this image. Though I still photograph this arch every year during my Winter Big Sur Workshop, this remains my all-time favorite image of Keyhole.
