Some of my most cherished images are ones that I spot away from the crowds. It may be a somewhat commonplace subject matter such as this small birch, but something different about it catches my eye (light, color, form, etc.).

I recently found this tree in its full fall splendor nestled against this beautiful red rock in a remote canyon in Escalante National Monument, Utah. It was certainly off the beaten path and I could be fairly assured that this scene was photographed by only me. Nature offers us these little gems all the time. If we keep our eyes and minds open to the possibilities, these moments will offer quite a feeling of satisfaction.
