Swanson Creek

Uvas Canyon County Park offers some awesome picture opportunities, especially after a heavy rain. Tucked into the Califonia coastal hills in southern Santa Clara County (about 20 miles south of San Jose), the park is virtually empty if one visits during the week. The Waterfall Loop Trail takes visitors on a trip through a portion of the 1133 acre park and follows along Swanson Creek and its many waterfalls as it cascades down the canyon. I love photographing either just after a storm or when it is still misting. Greens tend to record more saturated (similar with film) and the contrast is perfect for holding detail in not only the shadows, but also the highlights in the water. In other words, the contrast range falls within the 5 1/2 stops of light which the sensor can record. I will be leaving this week for to help teach the Gary Hart Death Valley Workshop. Gary still has a few openings if you'd like to come along. We will also be visiting Lone Pine and photographing Mt. Whitney and the Alabama Hills - a truly spectacular location!
