Yesterday afternoon my new Canon 5DMKIII arrived! I immediately charged the battery, then took the camera out for a test-drive. The image accompanying this blog was an in-camera HDR with minimal post-processing! Hi sir - I will read your WP Blog later while I am waiting for Barbara's car to get the oil changed...but this is a darn nice looking job of tonal and light balance here....very nice..... My take - Putting Dan Gurney behind the wheel of a faster car surely made the faster car perform better..But putting Don Smith behind the shutter of a great new camera makes the camera that much better, but moreso results, ultimately, in an exponentially elevated level of beauty, emotion, symmetry (sic), and richness that any camera would fail short of in the hands of most others.... .well, you get the idea >

@Denny Jump Photo: Thanks for your high praise Denny but I was just lucky that I had something beautiful to point the camera at - the weather cooperated! Still a lot of testing left to do but as you could tell in the write-up, I was impressed. It's been a very busy week covering hockey/concerts at HP Pavilion but next week it will be all landscape photography. Thanks as always for your kind words. Hopefully one of these days we get to meet! Have a fantastic weekend.

I'll be interested to hear how you like it, Don! If this is a testament, I'd say Bravo! (But as Denny said, it's more about the photographer and how he/she uses the camera than the camera itself.....But I'll bet that if I got a top of the like Viking range, I could sure cook with more ease and flair than I can on my old electric antique!)

@Tracy: As you know, good equipment helps but so do good fundamentals. Any golfer could swing Tiger Wood's clubs, but that does not make that person Tiger Woods. But strictly from a quality standpoint, my initial reactions to the camera were very favorable. The pro focusing system and 100% viewfinder are just some of the features that elevate this camera to a pro level. Plus, it is the highest MP camera in Canon's current lineup making it an excellent landscape camera. Will have to see how it holds up to inclement weather.
