To My Good Friends Memory

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 13 May 2009 in Landscape & Rural.

I post this image with a heavy heart burdened by the to sudden passing of two good friends, Mike Dennehy and Jeff Carlick. Both passed unexpectedly within the past week and needless to say, I am very saddened by their untimely departures.

I had known Mike since high school and he was our family dentist. He was a kind man with a great heart and always made my family feel at ease when we went for our dental visits. Jeff was one of my "best friends" and passed in his sleep a couple days ago. I made this image the day before speaking to him for the last time. I was driving to a workshop in Yosemite and, as I always do, called my good buddy to check in and pass the time chatting on the cell. We spoke for close to an hour.

This image is from Garrapata State Park in Big Sur and represents re-emerging life along one of the world's most beautiful coastlines. The colorful succulents offset the misty fog, which to me, represents what lies beyond for all of us.

This is my tribute to two beautiful and well respected friends. Both of you will be missed and a piece of my heart will be forever with you. Rest well.
