Wildflower Explosion

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 19 April 2009 in Landscape & Rural.

Springtime is in full bloom around the central coast of California and that means wildflowers!

I found this hillside on a private ranch near the top of Fremont Peak which sits on the border of Monterey and San Benito counties. I am not an expert on what type of wildflowers are in this image, but the color and the abundance of the flowers is what drew my eye.

I flattened my Gitzo tripod so the camera was literally level to the ground. This in turn gave prominence to the flowers and allowed for strong foreground elements. Using a 16-35mmL at 20mm, I focused about a third of the way up the frame to allow for maximum hyperfocal distance.
