Spring EveningPosted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 13 April 2009 in Landscape & Rural. A full moon rises over a field of mustard weed at dusk in southern Santa Clara Valley near Hollister, California. I used a 70-200mmL lens with a circular polarizer and had a window of about three minutes where the light balanced perfectly on the sky and the grasses. The violet color was not readily apparent to my eye but showed in the RAW file. The light levels were such that the rods in my eye were transmitting B&W signals to my brain. Digital sensors truly shine in these types of situations as they will capture the subtle hues that our eyes can no longer see and do this all without any affect of reciprocity failure which we use to experience when shooting chromes.
