Setting Sun Through Coastal Pines

A winter sun sets behind a row of coastal pines along the Big Sur coast. The image is really nothing more than color and form in their simplest forms. This image required minimum attention in Photoshop, and was photographed with a Canon 100-400mm and a B+W circular polarizer.

@Scott Schilling: Thanks Scott. This is one of those locations that I was always passing by when it was "too late." This time I made it my primary destination. It really works well on a clear day with some mist in the air (heavy swells or high tide).

@Bookfool: Thanks! We ge a lot of fog during May-September, but this time of year is ideal for images like this. It was 77 degrees in Big Sur yesterday! Great tourist weather but lousy photo weather.

The colors are absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately the scene reminds me all to well of just how cold it is here in NYC. How many more months until summer?

excellent composition - it works very well in this panoramic format as the light seems to really flow and spread to the right behind the trees... fantastic colours as well!

Interesting comment about the light. The only way I can explain the even spread of color is there must have been a lot of mist present in the air, perhaps from the heavy swells, which allowed for defraction of the light particles. But then again, I'm no meterologist; I just enjoyed the moment!
