Desert Glow

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 8 January 2009 in Landscape & Rural.

Prior to my days as a color landscape photographer, I worked completely in black-and-white. I would spend countless hours in one of my various darkrooms working and re-working images. The magic of seeing a print emerge in the developer tray simply cannot be reproduced in the immediacy of the digital age (nor can the lovely smell of chemicals). Lately, I have playing with a relatively new software from Nik Software called Silver Effects Pro. I went back to an image I shot in Nevada's Valley of the Fire State Park and using the High Structure filter, I converted the original color image to black and white. Could the magic be back!
