Winter Solstice Sunrise

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 31 December 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

An approaching storm made for an interesting sky on December 21st, the morning of winter solstice. I knew the sun would be rising at its furthest southern point on this shortest day of the year. I drove to one of my favorite locations high above the central California coast county of San Benito (my home) and decided to try a pano combining 5 images. I used Photoshop CS4's Photomerge command in the Auto mode and was not initially pleased with the alignment or the exposure. I then went to Edit>Auto-Blend Layers and viola, the program nailed it! I have posted an article on my website that shows step-by-step how I fixed this image: Fixing Problem Panoramas with Photoshop CS4's Photomerge If you would like to learn more about Photoshop, please join me on a workshop.
