Merry Christmas from Don Smith Photography!Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 25 December 2008 in Landscape & Rural. I hope wherever you are you are enjoying a Merry Christmas with family and friends. Last week we had "a California cold snap" and the coastal hills received a light dusting of snow. I was shooting along the Big Sur coastline and captured this image of a Monterey Cypress with the snow-capped Santa Lucia Mountains. This is a fairly straight image except that I used the new graduated filter in Adobe Camera Raw 5.2 to tone-down the mountains and sky. It's simple to use (just hold the shift key, click and drag) and it allows you to make changes within your selected area to exposure, brightness, contrast, vibrance, and saturation - it's really pretty cool - especially for fine-tuning those images where you forgot to use a split-grad. For those of you familiar with the Big Sur area, this image was captured just south of the Pt. Sur Lighthouse. If you are interested in taking a workshop at Big Sur, I will be offering two (March and August) this upcoming year. Please go to my website at http://www.donsmithphotography.com and send me an e-mail for more information or simply click on the Workshop tab on my homepage.
