Heaven's Gate RevisitedPosted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 23 December 2008 in Landscape & Rural. Thanks to HDR software, I revisited an old friend with a new approach in mind. I have shown other versions of the famed Pfeiffer Beach Arch located near Big Sur, California, but I decided to try Photomatix Pro 3.0 software on a six-frame bracket. I had to do some cloning with some of the water as the program did its best to match the movement, but overall the software worked its magic! This was the first time I had ever shot the arch with the tide so low (-1.6 feet). HDR really opens one's mind to picture possibilities that were once impossible to achieve. If you would like to purchase a copy of Photomatix Pro, please go to their website at Photmatix Pro and use my code: donsmithphotography at checkout to receive a 15% discount. I am also offering two Big Sur workshops in 2009 where we will visit stunning locations like Pfeiffer Beach. I still have openings in both if you would like to join me and my co-instructor Gary Hart. I limit class sizes to 12 participants, so you will receive a lot of one-on-one training. I also offer Photoshop, and HDR training and image review sessions.
