The Virgin River

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 9 December 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

Even though it was mid-November, the black willows in Zion Canyon were still showing fall color. I had very little time to explore this peaceful canyon as a 5-hour drive to Arches National Park loomed ahead; nontheless, on a hike to the mouth of The Narrows I spotted this peaceful venue. I loved this natural S-line formed by the river rocks which helped create these small rapids. I used a low perspective with my 16-35mm (set at 24mm) near the edge of the S-line to help lead the eye up to the brightly-colored willows that lined the Virgin River's banks; a really simple picture to execute. The red-rocked canyon walls in the background is where The Narrows begin.
