Crescent Moonrise Over Yosemite ValleyPosted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 13 November 2008 in Landscape & Rural. An early wakeup call netted a pleasing image of a crescent moonrise through a pre-dawn sky over Yosemite Valley captured from the famed Tunnel View lookout. Scenes like this require very little post-production work as all the tones and color record nicely on the sensor. I knew the granite icons would go to silhouette as I exposed for the sky, trying to lighten them would have looked unnatural. I capture all of my landscape images in RAW and do a bit of tweaking in Adobe Camera Raw. With this image, I basically lightened the edges of the sky just a touch, and darkened the horizon for a more natural looking blend. None of the tourists saw this beautiful scene (at least none from this location). I would venture to say most were tucked into their warm beds!
