First Light at North LakePosted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 20 October 2008 in Landscape & Rural. Sunrise light kisses the peaks (over 12,000 feet) at North Lake located along the eastern crest of the Sierra Nevada near 10,000 feet above Bishop, California. I have been trying for years to time the peak color with the aspen grove on the northwestern slope; this is about as close as I have come. I was lucky in that it was a calm, cloudless morning - perfect conditions for this type of image. I was co-teaching Gary Hart's Eastern Sierra Fall Workshop when I made this image. One of the students next to me, John Makowski, made an even better image in my opinion as he used foreground rocks as an anchor point and let the reflective colors of the aspens lead the eye through the frame - student trumps teacher - well done John! If you would like to join Gary and me in one of our workshops which we conduct around some of the most awe-inspiring scenery you could ever hope to see and photograph, please visit my website at http://www.donsmithphotography.com and click on the Workshop tab. You will also find liknks to Gary Hart's site. My Website: "how to" articles, galleries, stock photos, and more... Software Discounts:
