Bristlecone Pine and Crescent Moon

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 18 October 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

An old growth bristlecone pine is silhouetted against a dusk sky in the Schulman Grove of California's White Mountains at an elevation of over 10,000 feet as a crescent moon begins its ascent. Piecing nature's elements together has always been a source of creative fun for me. All the parts of the puzzle were present: interesting shapes, color and a moon! I simply moved up an adjoining hillside off the trail until I was able to line the moon into a strong position using a medium telephoto and the rule-of-thirds.
