Serendipitous moments often occur in nature - how quick we can react is part of what makes landscape photography appealing to me. In my sports career, I have to react to fleeting moments all the time. This cloud above Mt. Whitney lit for perhaps no more than 30 seconds. I had a 24-70mmL lens on and shot one frame, then swithched to my 100-400mmL but was too late. This is a cropped image of the original wider frame. In my workshops, I often encourage people to play with crops in either their RAW converter or Photoshop. Eventually, one will learn to do the cropping in-camera. Anyway, I loved the moment! If you would like to join Gary Hart and me on workshops around some of the most scenic spots in the western United States, please visit my website at http://www.donsmithphotography.com and click on the Workshop link.
An equally beautiful image as the previous one which i commented, very well done Don!

Thanks Evi,
Your daughter has a special gift which I'm sure you and your husband are nurturing. I left a comment on her site this morning. Thanks for your kind comments.
