Sun Setting Into a Sea of Fog

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 2 October 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

A setting sun adds warmth and texture to a fog bank off the Monterey coastline. The hardest part in shooting towards the sun is avoiding the potential for flare. There was really nothing I could do with this image, which was photographed with my Canon 100mm - 400mm lens, but I changed angles just enough to avoid flare. I do remove the polarizer, but when the sun is this low, changing angles is about it - there was nothing I could do to shade the lens. Prime lenses tend to respond a bit better because they contain less elements. To see more of my coastal images and other galleries, please visit my website at http://www.donsmithphotography.com.
