Lone Sentinnel

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 30 September 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

A tiny tree sits high atop a rocky peak in the Gabilan Mountain Range in central California. Cirrus clouds hover late in the day and provide a stark contrasting background. I love isolating the landscape like this. I feel one of the easiest exercises we can all do to improve our compositions is to eliminate anything that is not needed in the frame. Most times, the simplest images are the most successful. To see more of my images, learn about my upcoming 2009 workshops, electronically preview the first 15 pages of my book On the Edge or read monthly "how to" articles, please visit my website at http://www.donsmithphotography.com. I will be leaving today for a 5-day workshop with my partner Gary Hart in the eastern Sierra. I may not have much access to the internet.
