Summr Sunset Over Fogbank

Posted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 15 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

A summer sunset over an incoming fogbank put on this firery display near my home in central California. This is a typical scene for this time of year as a wall of Pacific Ocean fog is pulled in by hot temperatures from the inland central San Joaquin Valley. I love looking for light near the edges of fogbanks or storm clouds - especially at the fringes of the day. I used a 3-stop soft edged Singh-Ray split neutral density filter to hold back the exposure on the sky and allow the lower half of the frame to record correctly. Not sure what they were growing here, but my guess would be either strawberries, bell pepers or tomatoes.
