Summer Sunset Over Pincecrest LakePosted by Don Smith (California, United States) on 13 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural. I have been visiting Pinecrest Lake located in the central Sierra range in California's Stanislaus County, ever since my childhood days. This place holds very special memories for me and I wanted to caputre it in a way that viewers might stop and say, "I'd love to visit this place some day." I photographed this image last week while on a quick getaway with my family and friends. A monsoonal flow (common in the summer months) had developed which brought moist humid air over the region producing these cumulus clouds. I surmised that HDR was the way to go as the contrast range exceeded my senor's limited dynamic range of 5 1/2 stops. This image was a combination of (7) RAW files (brackedted 1 stop each by various shutter speeds) combined and Tone Mapped in Photomatix Pro 3.1.2 beta. My first attempt could not produce a good match on the moving water. Fortunately, I clicked on an option to match moving water and ripples and this was the result.
