Sunset Over the Tuolumne River

The evening sun sets through a smoke-filled sky over the Tuolumne River in Yosemite's high country. I was on the return portion of my 18.5 mile hike to Waterwheel Falls when I came upon this scene. Even though I was very tied and just wanted to get back to my car, I couldn't pass it by. A 3-stop Singh-Ray split grad helped balance the sky and river. Ansel Adams once said: "Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter." That's how I felt about this scene! Hi Jason, Pedro and Ana,

I've just returned from a week away - lot's of R&R and some shooting. Thanks to all of you for responding to this image. I believe wholeheartedly Jason that one ups their odds by just being out with a camera at the right time of the day. It happened again to me last night (will post later). It was a late dinner for my wife and I (we were the last ones in the restaurant) but definitely worth it. This image was just really just good timing - the right place at the right time! Let's face it, great landscape images don't appear at our convenience, but when one seeks them out, often times you are rewarded with a nice image.
