A sunny spring day was the only catalyst needed for these Califonia poppies to open their petals. I found these poppies (the official state flower) along Old Coast Road above Highway 1 south of Carmel. I used a Canon 100mm macro lens while lying on my stomach to get the upward perspective. This in turn allowed for the other poppies to lead the eye through the frame but not compete directly with the main poppy in the foreground.
